Memory support inside a small house
A locked unit is not the only way to care for dementia. In a small house the useful tools are ordinary. The same caregiver starts the morning. The bathroom is in the same place. Lunch is at the same time. Hallways are short, so pacing does not end at a strange door.
Arguing with a confused story rarely helps. Caregivers here are coached to join the feeling and skip the correction. If someone believes they have to get to work, the next step might be a coat, a walk to the garden, and a job watering the pots.
Families still matter. Bring the names, the songs, and the foods that land. Tell us what agitation looks like before it becomes a crisis. A nurse helps when behavior might actually be pain, infection, or a medication.
