When more support at home starts to make sense
Families often wait for a crisis. The earlier signs are quieter. The refrigerator holds food that has gone off. Mail piles up. A parent who used to walk to the corner starts staying in one chair. Pills are skipped or taken twice.
One fall, then another, is a reason to look at the house itself. Stairs, a tub without a grab bar, and a stove left on are harder to fix with a Sunday visit.
More support can be a few hours of help at the old house. It can also be a move into a small adult family home when nights and medications need someone on site. The right moment is when safety is slipping and the person is too tired to run a household, not only when a hospital says so.
